About

Go fly a kite, Shuang.

My uncle lived with us for a while when I was around ten, he always took me to fly a kite during springtime in a park near Bayi Overbridge. I had to finish homework before leaving school, rushed home, and rode on a bicycle with him to the park. It’s never easy to fly a kite for me, but after many tries, I managed to see my kite fly to the highest height.

I didn’t fly kites since then, but still remember those days, there’s nothing else to compare the joy of flying a kite, when your feet are firmly on the ground, and your sight and heart are up in the sky high. 脚在泥里,眼放在云端。

This is also the kind of life I want to live – I would always know where I stand, I stand firm and strong, while I aim high, and I see and think wild in the sky.

I’ve been working in Marketing in FMCG, especially Food industry, for over 10 years.

Also had some great shopper marketing experience in retail business.

7+ years with a team leadership role, managing a team of 10.

Bachelor degree in English Literature. Literature study fuels feeling of empathy and imagination.

Postgraduate degree in Innovation and Creativity in Industry (now MDes in Design Thinking).

I honestly think I’m a storyteller, a planner, a simplifier and a perfectionist.

Work is very important to me, and I give 120% at work.

What’s equally crucial is knowing who am I without work.

Things I Enjoy

Running

My active meditation. The “secret” goal is to run Boston Marathon in 2023, or latest 2024 and complete my first 50-mile trail run.

The Colour of Green

The colour of nature.

Cooking

Creative art in disguise.

Painting

The ultimate focus game, and you will be free. “When I started to paint I felt transported into a kind of paradise… In everyday life I was usually bored and vexed… Starting to paint I felt gloriously free…” Henri Matisse

Su Dongpo
苏东坡

十年生死两茫茫,不思量,自难忘。料得年年肠断处,明月夜,短松冈。他写高山大川,也写历史哲思,更有无尽深情和思念。 He’s a genius with the most fascinating life I’ve ever seen.

Chocolate

Have-to-finish-the-entire-bar type of love.

Books

Of all kind. The only birthday gift I ever wanted since I was little.

Harry Potter

Who doesn’t.

Marketing

It’s fun, creative, delivering value, telling stories, and ultimately, it’s about people. And how lucky, it’s my profession!

Henri Matisse

Colour, colour, and colour!

Alain de Botton

I love many of his books. “It’s as if Marcel Proust had risen from the grave and applied his subtle sensitivity, acute linguistic skills and his erudite interest in historical parallels, to the wonders and absurdities of the modern workplace.” commented by author Steve Denning on de Botton’s book “The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work”. That possibly explains why I love Alain de Botton, although dare not to put Marcel Proust in this section, I didn’t even finish reading his “In Search of Lost Time”, despite I picked up the book 13-year-old.

Humankind

By Rutger Bregman. A book full of hope. Would read some random pages when I’m down, and it lifts me up instantly. It’s estimated only 15-20% of soldier shoot their gun during WWII. And acts of kindness are really contagious. How wonderful is that.

Vincent van Gogh

We should all live life to the fullest.

Feng Zikai
丰子恺

A Chinese painter and essayist. A child at heart, with the softest soul, and most empathetic mind. I know Vincent Van Gogh for long, but only understand (I think) Vincent Van Gogh because of Feng Zikai. Yes he took full credit.
